DO Montsant
|
The Montsant area is located in Catalonia in the northeat corner of Spain.
Formerly one of Tarragona DO’s three subzones, called Falset, Montsant DO was approved by the Catalan Generalitat
(regional government) on 5th September 2001
The reds are Mediterranean wines with balance, deep aromas and plenty of body and they can be very velvety after short
ageing. Until recently, many of the wines were traditional generosos – oxidised rancios, sweet wines and local 'vin blanch'.
Red wines made with blends of Granacha, Carineña and experimental French grapes can be of very high quality, with Cariñena
lending the capacity to age well. Some of the traditional generoso wines from this area are still made although today the
Garnacha Blanca is being cold-fermented in the modern style with Chardonnay
