DO Cariñena
Cariņena is located in the Aragon region. This is in the north, central part of Spain. It is
the largest and oldest of the Aragonese DOs. It was one of Spain's
earliest areas to be designated, in 1932. It has given its name to the grape of the same name, called the Mazuelo elsewhere
in northern Spain and the Carignan in France.
The last decade has seen rapid development thanks to mergers of small bodegas and cooperatives,
and the reformulating of wines to modern tastes. The wines have become bigger and bolder
although production of the traditional famed rosés and Moscatels has continued.
